We found out, but…

Well we have found out if we're having a boy or a girl, but we're not saying anything publically until our families all know. That means if you find out and we haven't said anything online yet => no Facebook comments unless they're private messages!!!!!

You won’t all have to wait that long, we’ll have something up by the end of the week; if you’re immediate family you should have something arriving in the mail Wed/Thurs from us with the news!!!  teehee! ;)

Boy... or Girl?

Tomorrow morning we hope to find out if our baby is a boy or a girl. Once all our family knows we'll post the answer here, there, and everywhere! :) Stay tuned.

Moving...

Erin finished her Master degree requirements and we've decided that she is going to move to Alabama and live with her parents until I can find a job in that area.  We rented a Penske truck and spent an entire day filling it up.  Erin took Zack in her car and followed me in the truck.  We set out Thursday morning and made it to Oklahoma City that night.  We set out at a reasonable time Friday morning and made it to Memphis for the night.  From Memphis the drive was only 5 hours or so; we made it to Huntsville just after lunch time.

Erin's parents were able to get us a storage unit which so we spent a couple hours unloading the truck and filling the space.  We couldn't be up too late as I had a flight the next day.

Back Home

So we made it home ok a couple weeks ago. We had a relaxing New Years, went to bed at 10pm after celebrating with the East coast. Zack got all trimmed nice last weekend and this weekend we don't have anything planned. We'll be posting pictures/videos from our Christmas this weekend and updating this site with links so check back soon.

In the car, yet again!

So we're mostly packed for the trip back to New Mexico. We've got almost everything in suitcases or bags and in the hall ready to go into the car. We're not planning on leaving until around 10am as Meriah doesn't get out of work until around 6pm. Hopefully the drive will be uneventful (I'm sure it will be) and we'll make good time. We're taking Sat off from driving and will just hang out with Meriah, since we didn't get that chance on our trip out to Alabama.

We should be back in New Mexico sometime Sunday night, probably around 8pm. I'm not working until 10am on Monday, so I should be able to get some sleep before having to be back at work. Tuesday is New Year's and I'm not working a full day so that will help me recover, but Wednesday is a sale changeover so I've got to be at work extra early for that (UGH!). Oh well, no rest for the weary I guess.

Ok, sleep now!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Merry Christmas!! We're having a great time in Alabama, we just got done opening presents, having breakfast (at noon!), and getting things cleaned up some in the living room. Erin and I got a bunch of stuff that we had asked for, as well as a bunch of stuff that we didn't that we enjoy just as much. From movies, to tools, to games, to clothes; everything is great and we will get loads of use out of.

I won't bore everyone with a list of what we each got, but we were very glad to be able to come out to Alabama and visit family and hang out for a while (even if it was only for a week for me, Erin got 2). I am much more relaxed and have some great opportunities that may open up for me in the near future (keep your fingers crossed).

Alright, time to go back to everyone and visit.

Traveling Again

Yesterday afternoon I began my journey back to Alabama. I left the house around 11am with the intent of getting my haircut before going to the airport; well that didn't happen, I had to be at the airport at 2 and by 1:15 it was obvious that they weren't even close to getting to me before I had to leave so I left and just went to the airport.

I got to Dallas/Fort Worth just fine, and then they changed the gate number so I had to move, and then the flight was delayed because the crew that was supposed to be on our plane was delayed coming from Columbus, OH because the flight into Columbus was late coming from Chicago, IL! We left an hour late and landed just before midnight. Needless to say it was a long day with many hours spent just sitting at DFW with not much to do.

Erin picked me up at the airport and we went back to her parents house where we fell asleep pretty quickly.

Tomorrow is Christmas and I'll post again after we open stuff and do all that.

Alabanana

Erin, Zack, and I made it safe and sound to Alabama. We were planning on leaving on Friday morning, but then changed the plan because some serious inclement weather headed the same direction we were going; we didn't want to risk the East Mountains of ABQ getting closed. We left Thursday at 4pm and made it to Ft. Smith around 5am CST!!! That's after spending the last 7 hours of the trip driving in really dense fog. We slept until 11am and then went to lunch and got back on the road for the rest of the trip around 1pm. We pulled into Erin's parents' just after 9:30pm.
Zack did really good, he spent most of the trip sleeping in the back seat. Needless to say we were tired and spent whatever time we could get sleeping. Today we went out for coffee and met Shannon and did some shopping. Thom flew in tonight and we sat around and talked for a while after he got in. My eyes won't stay open anymore so I'm heading to bed.
NIGHT!

Martian Child

Last Thursday night Erin and I went to see a screening of the movie Martian Child with Megan and Will. I had seen the preview of it and knew a little bit about the story, but had no expectations going into the theater. The movie stars John and Joan Cusack, oddly enough playing brother and sister. The main character adopts a young boy who thinks he's from Mars and has developed some extremely unique behaviors because of this. The main plot of the movie revolves around John's character dealing with the death of his wife and the eccentricities of his new responsibility. Amanda Peet co-stars along with several other recognizable people.

I found this movie to be very funny and touching, the ending was perfect and the acting in this movie is top-notch. I'm a big John Cusack fan and we will be adding this movie to our collection as soon as it is available.

I highly recommend this film; it opens in theaters November 9th.

Turkey Day

I just found out from my mom last night that she will be able to come out here for Thanksgiving afterall, she'll be here Thurs-Sun!!! I can't wait...

Zack is doing awesome in his doggy training classes, we just finished week 4 and he knows: sit, lay down, leave it, take it, stay, come, stand, and be nice. He's the superstar of the class, none of the other dogs can come close to knowing as much; maybe it's because they're older dogs, but I think it's because we work with him at home a lot. He's got a ever-growing library of videos on youtube now as well.

The End of a Burden

My brother's band's CD came out last month and I just got it last week. It's the only thing in my car now and will be the only thing for a while. I highly recommend picking it up, even if you're not big into metal and screaming lyrics. It's awesome, and it's my bro!

Can we do it!? We'll find out.

The Jonah Veil

Today The Jonah Veil were supposed to play a concert in Albuquerque and I was so excited about being able to see my brother and the band he's in play a concert. But because of a booking snafu (i.e. the concert was never really booked) they didn't get to play. The ended up hanging out at our house and having a cookout with Erin and I.

I'm really bummed that I didn't get to see them play, but it was a lot of fun hanging out and listening to them tell some of the stories about their cross-country trip so far. It's 10:30 and they just left a few minutes ago to head to their next gig in Abilene, Texas. Hopefully that concert will still be happening by the time they get there.

I've got a handful of pictures up of them at our house here: <link>

10,000 Lakes

Erin and I just got back last week from a week-long trip to Southern Minnesota to visit Erin's dad's family for a reunion of sorts. It was a lot of fun and Zack made the trip with us for his first time on a plane and he did very well. There was lots of eating, visiting, and cleaning that happened during our short visit. Over all it was a nice trip and Erin and I had a good time. I took some pictures, but not many of them are of people; most of them are of scenery around the house, or of Zack playing in the yard HE HAD NEVER SEEN GRASS BEFORE! and decided that it tasted pretty good so he would lay down and starting ripping chunks of the lawn out of the ground.
Here's where we posted the pictures that we took; Erin's sister took others and when we get those we'll post them as well: <link>.

Welcome Zack

Erin and I got a puppy this weekend!!! His name is Zack and he is an 11-week old miniature schnauzer. He is really cool and loads of fun, not to mention tiring. Loves to chew on everything and is full of energy. He's still working on making it outside before having an accident, but we're very close already to having him housebroken.

I've posted the first pictures here on my website, check them out when you have a chance.

Shadow - 1989 - 2007

Shadow was my first and only pet, I got her the summer before sixth grade. A friend of mine had a farm and their cat had kittens and he was giving them away for free. My dad and I went to pick one out and when I saw her I knew that she was the one I wanted. She rode home in the car with us and because we didn't have a cat-carrier I had to hold her on my lap/chest the whole way (not far, but far enough). When we got home she got away from me and hid under the front seat in my dad's car; it took us about 5 minutes to get her out and into the house.

She used to climb up the screen on the porch to the top and then, because she was afraid to let go to climb down, would stay there and meow at us to help her get down. She also sometimes did this on trees in the front yard when I would let her outside. She would get to about 4 feet up and get scared of the height and turn her little head around at me and meow until I got her down.

She would purr very loudly when I petted her, and she would dig her claws into my shoulder when I would hold her. She was playful as well as stubborn and territorial; when my brother gave my little sister a kitten a few years ago Shadow didn't want anything to do with her... she had been the only cat in the house for over 15 years, and now there was an "invader." They eventually were able to get along once Ziggy (my sister's cat) figured out that she wasn't the boss of the house.

I miss her, and it was a hard decision to make, but I know it was the right thing for her. I will post pictures of her once I get some in the mail.

EDIT: here's a couple of pictures I have from May 2006: image | image

Long time no update

I haven't posted anything personal in a while so here's a sort of update of what's been up.

Still working, just going through the daily grind doing the same-old-same-old. I need to hang on a little longer an the regional IT position I want to apply for is going to be posted. I also get my stock options in March for reaching the 6,000 service hour mark. Erin and I are gearing up for the holiday, Erin's family will be here the 22nd through the 26/27th. I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet, I've got a couple of ideas for people; otherwise I'm clueless.

I'm studying to take the A+ certification exam early next year and my regional coordinator is going to be spending a day here at my store so I'm going to ask him what kinds of things I can do to prepare for the position I want to apply for. I'm thinking of also going after the Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification as well.

I've got an additional computer in the house now, I got it from someone I work with who bought a new Mac Pro. I've been messing with it and µbuntu Linux; got it working then I tried something else so it's kinda in limbo right now. I was going to convert it to a DVR, but the TV-tuner card in it isn't supported by the linux I put on it to record TV.

NINTENDO WII!!!!!

I sat in a hard plastic chair for 6 hours on Saturday night in the layaway department of my local Walmart to have the privelage of purchasing one of the first Nintendo Wii's for sale at 12:01am Sunday, November 19. I was #9 in line and let me just say that before you ask... "YES, IT WAS WORTH IT!!!" This thing is the most amazing game experience I've had in a long time. It's got some of the coolest features you could ever ask for:

What can I say, this thing is awesome!!! I love it, my wife loves it, her sister and her boyfriend camped out (read: tent/sleeping bags) at a Best Buy all night and got one each (one to sell on eBay).

Read more about the experience after the jump...

So here's how it worked at the store I bought them:

YEAH WII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

35th Annual Balloon Fiesta

Last Friday marked the beginning of the 35th Annual International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. It is the largest balloon festival in the world with thousands of balloonists gather for a week of whatever it is they do. If you're actually interested in what they do while they're in Albuquerque go here: http://www.balloonfiesta.com/. We went with Erin's friend Jess on Saturday morning for the first Mass Ascension and it was quite spectacular. For pictures and a video go here: balloon images.

When we left Jess' apartment Saturday morning around 6 we were concerned that the events were going to be cancelled because it was raining a little bit and it was sort of windy. We still made the trek across town to the Balloon Fiesta Park. It was a good thing we did because we got there just as the balloons started filling up and lauching. It was really spectacular and the sunrise was even better with the lingering storm clouds shrouding the East mountains. Early morning sunrise was a mix of reds, pinks, and purples. Later in the morning we looked back to see a hole in the clouds creating rays of sunlight fitering down, definitely cool. Check out the pictures for more.

A Bumpy Ride for a Smooth Vacation

Here it is... the long-awaited account of our recent vacation/trip to Alabama.

It all started on Thursday, we got up early and Erin dropped me at work and then went home. I worked the morning and Erin came by and picked me up and we went to lunch and then left the car at the parking location and got to the airport. We made it through checking our bags with American Airlines and security with no problem, we got on the plane and made it to Dallas without a hitch. Then we discovered that the flight from there to Huntsville was delayed about an hour. No big deal; we went and found something to eat... Oh wait! Everything closes at 8 except McDonald's!!!! Oh well. We got back to our gate and call Erin's mom to let her know that we're still waiting; she checks status online and sees "canceled!" WHAT!!!?? We ask another passenger and apparently they made an announcement while we were eating. DOH!!! Now we get in line to get re-booked. We end up on Delta the next morning at 7am because there aren't any flights after 10pm and that's the first one the next morning. We're given vouchers for the Marriot South and food (dinner/breakfast). And one more thing, you don't get your luggage. We go downstairs to wait for the shuttle (that's supposed to be there already) and manage to make it to the hotel an hour later. We got box lunches from the hotel, only there's no fridge in the room so our sandwiches spent the night on ice. We made it to the hotel around 10:45pm, the restaurant closes at 11pm and we weren't going to drink in the bar so we just went to bed.

Next day after the break -->

Friday we got up around 5am because we had to be in the lobby by 5:30am to get the shuttle to the airport. We check out and get a ride to the airport and then stand in line to get tickets/boarding passes since all we had were vouchers for tickets. We get our seats, they're not next to each other. We get stopped at security for an extra pat-down and then make it to our gate; we leave our tickets with the desk and they're going to try and get us seats next to each other. We find some breakfast in the form of weak coffee and a muffin. We get on the plane and make it to where? Oh that's right, Atlanta; not Huntsville. We make it to Atlanta and have enough time to ride the train/shuttle thing to the next gate and walk right onto the plane. We finally land in Huntsville, meet Erin's parents and then head to baggage claim to find out where our luggage is. American Airlines tells us to file a claim with Delta because it's not there yet and it will be given to Delta once it does arrive. We go talk to them and the earliest we could have it is that night, but probably not. Great! We give them the address in Tennessee where we'll be for the weekend and leave. We go to the PX on the arsenal and get a change of clothes and toothbrushes/deoderant, etc.

We get some lunch, head to the house and pack up some other stuff. Then we head to Tennessee. Have a nice time and hang out, then Saturday our luggage gets to Knoxville (the nearest airport) at some point and we get out luggage that afternoon around 4:30/5pm!!! So now we've been without luggage/medication/grooming stuff for: 50 hours!!!! WOOHOO!!!

NEways, our luggage had been searched and plopped back in the suitcases, but everything was ok inside. We were able to enjoy the rest of our vacation, but it was needless to say not the way we intended to start out.

I've got pictures and video from Tennessee that I will post soon once I put all the pictures together.

Finally... Pictures are up!

I finally got the pictures from my family's visit posted to my website. Check them out when you get a chance, but be gentle, there are over 700 pictures and I haven't had a chance to resize them so they're rather large at the moment and if too many people are looking at once it will make my computer choke and die!

Christmas Pictures

So as I predicted I didn't get the pictures from my family's visit posted the other day. I will, however get them posted this weekend. Work this week has been kinda hectic and with Erin not being mobile I've had more tasks to take care of when I get home (ie making dinner, cleaning up, etc.). Without fail, I will have the pictures up this weekend.

Erin hopefully has an appointment with the doctor tomorrow morning; she's been on the phone with them all afternoon and it looks like 11:30 is when they'll be able to see her.
