The Future "Helicopter Parents"

"Boohoo, I only played 9 minutes of the game." Get over it girly-girl. This article tells the story of a girls basketball team's parents trying to oust the coach because their daughters didn't get to play every single minute of every single game. They came just shy of filing a civil lawsuit claiming "child abuse." When will parents learn that they need to step back and let their kids start becoming their own person. I've read articles like about so called "helicopter parents" still calling the shots for their kids in college; they get a bad grade on a test/essay and the parent is calling the dean or professor protesting "on their child's behalf." Yeah, right!

Too Little, Too Late

Microsoft, today, announced it's release up the much hyped Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) web browser. The concensus is that this release was in response to IE7's declining market share in terms of % of users surfing the Internet using IE. I say there isn't much that Microsoft can do now to reverse its downhill slide in the "browser wars" as other browsers nibble away at IE's dominance as the browser of choice for many Internet users. It may have been that Internet Explorer was the defacto choice, simply because it came already installed on the majority of new computers from various manufacturers. In contrast, all other Internet browsers must be downloaded and installed in order to use them; and you need a web browser (IE) to get to their website in order to download it in the first place. How ironic...

Inpsiration

If this doesn't inspire you then you're heart is dead. I've seen this before, and was reminded of it this morning while paging through one of my various news sites. Amazing dedication to family and to achieving that which was said was impossible.

That day changed Rick's life. "Dad,'' he typed, "when we were running, It felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!''

Who Knew?

Who knew that a seemingly simple pastime like planespotting could make international headlines and help the public become aware of secret CIA installations across the world? This article brings into perspective the harsh reality that is the war on terror. Midnight kidnappings, prisoners whisked away to various international locales for interrogation, or worse... torture. For what? Good question. What happens when the United States arrests you and takes you to an undisclosed location in the middle of nowhere, holds you for a seemingly random amount of time, and then releases you into who knows where? Another good question; this article may help you, but you'll have to formulate your own answers to those questions, because you won't be able to aks anyone directly.

35th Annual Balloon Fiesta

Last Friday marked the beginning of the 35th Annual International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. It is the largest balloon festival in the world with thousands of balloonists gather for a week of whatever it is they do. If you're actually interested in what they do while they're in Albuquerque go here: http://www.balloonfiesta.com/. We went with Erin's friend Jess on Saturday morning for the first Mass Ascension and it was quite spectacular. For pictures and a video go here: balloon images.

When we left Jess' apartment Saturday morning around 6 we were concerned that the events were going to be cancelled because it was raining a little bit and it was sort of windy. We still made the trek across town to the Balloon Fiesta Park. It was a good thing we did because we got there just as the balloons started filling up and lauching. It was really spectacular and the sunrise was even better with the lingering storm clouds shrouding the East mountains. Early morning sunrise was a mix of reds, pinks, and purples. Later in the morning we looked back to see a hole in the clouds creating rays of sunlight fitering down, definitely cool. Check out the pictures for more.

Color Moon Photo

I sent this link out recently via email, but I figured I'd post it here as well for people to access more easily. This is a composite image made from several photographs of the moon. The image is a little color-saturated, but still quite stunning to view. I've got it set at my desktop wallpaper both at home and at work, and Erin is using it right now as well.

What Color is the Moon, Really?

When Has Someone Gone Too Far?

This type of news just makes me sick. This guy Phelps and his people go around protesting near US Soldier funerals saying that it's God's punishment for the United States' tolerance of homosexuals. Now he's planning on setting up shop outside the funerals for the Amish girls killed in Monday's school shooting in Pennsylvania.

Westboro Baptist Church said it is "continuing to pray for even worse punishment upon Pennsylvania.
